EcoSia — a strong line of environmentally-responsible products — represents Petro-Canada's commitment to developing lubricants and fluids that help reduce environmental impact. In a wide number of industries, our EcoSia branded solutions help our customers meet the increasingly strict environmental guidelines of their industry without sacrificing performance.
EcoSia products have been assessed to determine their impact on the environment. Based on these results, EcoSia products meet two criteria:
- Inherently or readily biodegradable based on component or product data obtained using the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) 301B testing guideline, or OECD 306 testing guideline (Biodegradability in Seawater) †
- Not environmentally toxic based on the United Nations Globally Harmonized System (GHS) criteria. ††

Readily biodegradable is defined as rapid and complete mineralization of the substance, with more than 60% of the product biodegrading within 28 days (OECD 301B or OECD 306).
Inherently biodegradable is defined based on the results of OECD 301B biodegradability studies where more than 20% and less than 60% of the substance biodegraded within 28 days. |

Not Environmentally Toxic is defined as not acutely toxic to fish, daphnia or algae according to the United Nations Globally Harmonized System (GHS) criteria.
Eco-Toxicity is calculated as:
96-hour Fish Toxicity LC50>100 mg/L (based on OECD 203 test data or equivalent);
48-hour Daphnia EC50 > 100 mg/L (based on OECD 202 test data or equivalent);
and 72-hour Algae IC50 > 100 mg/L (based on OECD 201 test data or equivalent). |
